South African wheelchair tennis players Donald Ramphadi and Kgothatso Montjane had impressive starts to their US Open campaigns in New York.

Donald Ramphadi, seeded No. 3 in the quad singles event, secured a convincing victory in the first round by defeating American Andrew Bogdanov with a remarkable 6-2, 6-2 win. Ramphadi's next challenge promises to be a thrilling showdown as he is set to face his doubles partner and British former world No. 1, Andy Lapthorne.

Meanwhile, Kgothatso Montjane powered through to the quarterfinals of the women’s event after triumphing over Argentine Maria Moreno with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win. Her next opponent is Japanese fourth seed Momoko Ohtani, with the two having previously crossed paths ten times. Ohtani currently leads their head-to-head series 6-4, but Montjane is determined to improve her record against the Japanese.

On Wednesday, Montjane and Ramphadi made dominant starts to their US Open doubles campaigns, advancing to the women's and quads doubles semifinals, respectively.

Montjane and her Japanese partner, Yui Kamiji (seeded No.2), defeated Lucy Shuker (Britain) and Pauline Deroulede (France) 6-1, 6-3. They will next face the unseeded pair of Dana Mathewson (United States) and Manami Tanaka (Japan) in the doubles semifinals.

Meanwhile, in the quads doubles, Ramphadi and his British partner, Andy Lapthorne, upset the second-seeded pair of Heath Davidson (Australia) and Robert Shaw (Canada) with a score of 7-6(4), 6-4. They have set up a semifinal clash with Tomas Masaryk (Slovakia) and Ymanitu Silva (Brazil).
