Tennis South Africa (TSA) is delighted to announce the launch of the American Express National Club Championships (previously known as the Top Guns Club Championships). The tournament, sponsored by American Express, is set to revive the heartbeat of the tennis community in South Africa. American Express is operated in South Africa through Nedbank, its authorised card issuer and merchant acquirer in the country.
The American Express National Club Championships will feature both men and women in a doubles team competition, offering an impressive prize pool of over R200,000. Each participating team will consist of two men and two women, competing in men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles matches.
The tournament will feature district events in major tennis provinces such as Gauteng, Western Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal. Provincial playoffs will be hosted across all nine provinces, determining nine national final qualifiers. Each province will crown both A Division and B Division champions between January and July 2025.
The A Division Provincial champions will qualify for the national finals, scheduled to take place at the iconic Sun City Resorts in the North West Province from 29 August to 1 September 2025. This highly anticipated event is expected to attract hundreds of tennis clubs from across the country.
“TSA and American Express are committed to promoting and developing tennis at the grassroots level in South Africa. The American Express National Club Championships is proof of this commitment, providing a platform for clubs and players to showcase their talent and compete at the highest level. We believe this event will inspire a new generation of players and invigorate tennis clubs nationwide. We look forward to witnessing the incredible talent that will be on display next year”, said Gavin Crookes, President of Tennis South Africa.
"Our partnership with TSA continues to introduce exciting programmes for grassroots tennis, and the American Express National Club Championships is truly about bringing communities together through tennis. We look forward to seeing tennis clubs across the country battle it out, forge new friendships, and ultimately crown the first American Express National Club Championships champions", said Khensani Nobanda, Group Executive of Nedbank Group Marketing and Corporate Affairs.
