Tennis South Africa (TSA) mourns the loss of Bob Low, who passed away on Friday, 27 December. Bob was a towering figure in the tennis community, leaving behind a legacy of unparalleled dedication, leadership, and service.

A member of the Pinelands Tennis Club (PTC) since 1974, Bob quickly became its cornerstone, assuming the role of chairman within six years and later serving as President from 1996 to 2023. His contributions to the club were immeasurable — from maintaining the facilities to installing court lights and even building the children’s jungle gym himself. Under his stewardship, PTC thrived, fostering a culture of inclusivity, high membership, and excellent facilities.

Bob’s impact extended beyond PTC. For over three decades, he was a key member of the Western Province and later Cape Town Tennis Executive, where he played a pivotal role in developing and managing the country’s best league competition. His efforts enriched tennis at every level and earned him the admiration of players and administrators nationwide.

Bob was not just a leader but also a storyteller, capturing countless memories as the unofficial club photographer. The photos adorning the clubhouse walls stand as a testament to his enduring presence and dedication.

In 2023, Bob’s immense contributions were rightfully recognized with the naming of the ‘Bob Low’ court and a special Lifetime Achievement Award. While his absence leaves a profound void, his legacy continues to inspire us to uphold the values he championed.

To his wife Pauline, daughters Andrea and Diane, and his extended family, we extend our deepest sympathies. Thank you for sharing Bob with the tennis community; his remarkable contributions will be remembered and cherished by generations to come.

Rest in peace, Bob Low. Your tireless dedication, wisdom, and generosity will forever be a part of South African tennis.
