The Tennis Cares independent panel met for the first time on Tuesday afternoon to review the first batch of funding applicants. 14 people in total (9 coaches and 5 officials) will be assisted this week and will be contacted shortly.
Funding will be dispersed on a weekly basis and, as more money is raised, we intend to increase the number of applicants receiving funding. The process moving forward will be as follows:
- Monday morning at 08h00: Applications for the week ahead close. Applications received after the deadline will be considered for the following week.
- Monday afternoon: List of applicants, with motivations, shared with the independent panel.
- Tuesday afternoon: Independent panel adjudicates on which applicants will receive funding that week.
- Wednesday: Successful applicants contacted and allocations for the week made via electronic food vouchers.
Allocations will be determined by:
- The number of weekly applications received.
- The available pot of money in the Tennis Cares Fund.
- Those who are most in need – as determined by the independent panel.
- New applicants will, where possible, be given first priority.
If your application is not successful, then it will be carried over to the following week. Previous funding recipients can continue to apply on a weekly basis, but will need to submit a fresh application - after receiving funding.
Coaches that have been in good standing with TSA and were licensed in 2019 may apply.
The Tennis Cares fund has been created to assist coaches and officials in desperate need. The assistance provided is specifically in the form of electronic food vouchers that can be used at the following retailers: Pick 'n Pay, ShopRite Checkers, Usave, Clicks and Dischem. The minimum amount of assistance per applicant that will be allocated on a weekly basis is R500.
