South Africa’s Philip Henning triumphed on home soil at the Curro Centre Court Series in Stellenbosch on Sunday, clinching the men’s singles title with an impressive 6-4, 6-1 victory over Germany’s Nino Ehrenschneider.
Henning reached the final without dropping a set, edging out second seed and compatriot Kris van Wyk in the semifinals 7-6(3), 6-4. His dominant play throughout the tournament led to a decisive win against Ehrenschneider in the final.
This victory marks Henning’s sixth title of the year, adding to his ITF M15 and M25 titles in Sharm El Sheikh, Addis Ababa, Yanagawa City, and Hillcrest.
In the women’s event, 15-year-old South African junior sensation Jahnie van Zyl impressed all week, reaching her maiden ITF pro women’s final. She caused several upsets, defeating German third seed Luisa Meyer auf der Heide, fifth seed Elena Jamshidi of Denmark, and Dutch second seed Stephanie Judith Visscher. Despite a valiant effort, she ultimately lost to Korean fourth seed BoYoung Jeong with a score of 6-2, 7-6(5).
