South Africa will host the Under-14 African Junior Championships for boys and girls at the Gauteng East Tennis Centre in Benoni from 24 to 28 April 2019.
This is the fourth consecutive year that the prestigious junior tennis showpiece takes place on South African shores with the host nation having finished in second place last year behind Morocco when the tournament was staged in Tshwane.
Team South Africa has already set the bar and are hoping that the fast, hard surface court along with altitude will play a factor this time around in the team walking away with top honours.
Junior national stars like Guy Vorwek, Leo Matthysen and Jordan Georgiev (boys) as well as Carle Botha and Kaitlyn Ramduth (girls) will feature.
“Obviously, target is on doing well keeping in mind that we want to use the advantage that is afforded to us – the home conditions, the hard surface and altitude to our favour against our opponents,” said Mninawa Ndaku, Tennis SA High-Performance Coordinator.
“We have had players arriving from Tuesday in preparations for the warm-up event as well as the tournament, so the excitement has started. One advantage about this week’s event is that there are points on offer for Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) 14 & Under rankings for the players”
The event will comprise of the 64 best 14 & Under Boys and Girls from Africa, all contesting to be crowned the Individual Africa Junior Champions.
The warm up event takes place from 19 to 22 April.
