Cardio Tennis is a high energy fitness activity that combines the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise - delivering the ultimate, full body, calorie burning, aerobic and anaerobic workout.
Cardio Tennis is a fun group activity using fast paced tennis games and drills for players of all ability and fitness levels featuring music, heart rate monitors and low compression Cardio Tennis Balls. Cardio Tennis is for all ages, ability and fitness levels. It is a great way of getting adult beginner tennis players on court without being intimidated by better club players.
In a recent interview with Michele Krause, Global Education Director for Cardio Tennis, by Mark Wylam (for Social Tennis), she made a few points on why Cardio Tennis is popular in the USA and growing in other parts in the world. Specifically:
1) Group fitness - People want a social experience. We argue that Cardio Tennis is the most social of all group fitness classes because of all the interaction one has with others in the 60 minutes, the partner activities, high-fives and games. Nothing else has this level of interaction.
2) Community and culture - Cardio Tennis like other fitness activities has this as well. It has its own language and sense of belonging.
3) Wearable technology - has been the #1 fitness trend for the last 2 years in a row. Cardio Tennis has been using heart rate technology since 2005, we have been the leader.
4) Introduction to the sport - Learning and/or improving in a skill - which in the case of tennis can be played your whole life.
5) Mind and body - It is the most mind/body engaging fitness activity out there. Most people lose all sense of time when partaking in Cardio Tennis. This is probably the best definition of fun.
Cardio Tennis is growing in popularity the USA with figures increasing steadily since 2006 and the goal in South Africa is to expand to other areas in the country to get more participants on court enjoying the great sport of tennis. Watch this space!
