The South African Under-14 Girls team played their hearts out before losing 1-2 to Venezuela on Friday afternoon in the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals in Czech Republic.
The team face Brazil today (Saturday) for the 15th position.
“We felt confident going into this tie and we are heart broken that we didn't close the tie when we had our chances”, said team coach Asnath Sebati.
“The girls played, took risks and were aggressive the whole time”, added Sebati.
Day 4: Thursday, 08 August 2019
It was another tough day at the office for the South African Under-14 Girls team at the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals in Prostejov, Czech Republic on Thursday.
The team was no match for the Greek team, losing 0-3 in their first play-offs.
The South African team will next play Venezuela on Friday in the 13th place play-off.
Asnath Sebati, the team coach said that credit needs to be given to the Greek team. “Our opponents were too good but honestly we were hoping to win at least the doubles rubber. The battle is far from over, so we will regroup as a team and come back strong against Venezuela on Friday.”
Day 3: Wednesday, 07 August 2019
Feisty South African Under-14 Girls team put up a resilient fight, but eventually lost 2-1 to Brazil on day 3 of the ITF World Junior Tennis Final in Prostejov, Czech Republic on Wednesday.
Team coach Asnath Sebati was full of praises of her team's fighting spirit, ”Great fight from the girls today against Brazil, we would have loved to win the tie but seeing your players give a top effort is all a coach can ask for".
“Anna Wise came very close and the girls played a great game of doubles. Exciting to have our first win in the bag and we hope to carry on the momentum going into the playoffs
South Africa take on Greece in the playoffs on Thursday.
Day 2: Tuesday, 06 August 2019
The South African Under-14 Girls team went down 0-3 to Ukraine on the second day of their ITF World Junior Tennis Finals tournament in Prostejov, Czech Republic, on Tuesday.
This is the second tournament loss for the team having gone down 0-3 to top seeds Switzerland on the opening day on Monday.
Despite the setback, team coach Asnath Sebati said the girls are playing their best, "It was a really tough day out there for the girls today, they did well but Ukraine was just too good. But we are confident tomorrow will be different."
The team will go up against seventh-seeded Brazil on Wednesday.
Day 1: Monday, 05 August 2019
It was a tough day at the office for the South African Under-14 Girls team as they lost their opening tie 3-0 to top seed Switzerland on the first day of the ITF World Junior Finals on Monday in Prostejov, Czech Republic.
"The girls had a tough tie today. They lost all their matches against Switzerland, who are seeded number 1. We had a few opportunities but the Swiss team took advantage in key points," said team coach Asnath Sebati.
"We learnt a lot from today's tie and we are ready to give our best tomorrow," added Sebati.
The team take on Ukraine in their 2nd tie in the group stage encounter on Tuesday.
