South Africa's leading women’s player Chanel Simmonds clinched a silver medal after going down in the women’s singles final at the African Games in Rabat on Thursday.
Simmonds was denied the women’s singles title by Egyptian top seed Maier Sherif 6-3 6-3.
The in-form 27-year-old reached the finals of the prestigious African event without dropping a set.
Simmonds appeared to have the contest under control, but had no answer when the Egyptian stepped up the pressure in the second set.
"The goal was to come out with a gold medal but unfortunately fell one step short. It was a great experience for me to participate in an event like this. It’s always special for me to represent South Africa", commented Simmonds.
