It was a disappointing day for South Africa at both the French Open and Junior French Open, respectively, as Kevin Anderson was forced to withdraw with an injury, whilst Bertus Kruger lost his singles match in straight sets.
Anderson was forced to retire in the second set of his match against 7th seed, Marin Cilic. The tall South African had lost the first set 6-3 and was down 3-0 in the second set, when he retired with a suspected hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Bertus Kruger's brave Junior French Open singles campaign came to an end as he went down 6-7, 4-6 to 10th-seed, Oliver Crawford, from the United States.
