Every month the TSA website will be shining the spotlight on a different tennis club in South Africa. The featured club for April is Camps Bay Tennis Club in Cape Town.

Do you want your club to be featured? Send an e-mail to [email protected] with more details about your club and we could select you for May!

Camps Bay Tennis Club (commonly known as “The Bay”) is 92 years old and is situated in one of the most picturesque seaside suburbs in SA.

Although The Bay only has 4 courts and approximately 80 members, the club has for many years punched above its weight and has arguably become one of the strongest league playing clubs in the country.

Bearing testimony to the above, during the past year, The Bay amazingly won all 3 WPT Premier League Competitions (Men’s Singles, Ladies Singles and Mixed Doubles) and capped an unprecedented season by also winning the inaugural Growthpoint Top Guns National Club Competition at Sun City (The Bay team comprised Jody Claasen, Japie de Klerk, Jacqui Boyd and Sally Estcourt).

Club Chairman, Alan Chiat (who has been the driving force behind the club for the past 40 plus years), attributes the club’s success (on and off court) to the fantastic club spirit and family type atmosphere that prevails at The Bay and points out that one does not need THE biggest, best or fanciest facilities to have a strong club.

The club fields Senior, Junior and Ladies Morning League teams.

Activities planned for the rest of the year include social tennis (midweek under excellent floodlights and weekends), junior holiday camps and clinics, club champs, pizza evenings (The Bay recently built its own pizza oven), new member evenings and themed parties.
